Welcome to Third Grade!
Our classroom theme this year is "Be Like a Detective in School!" We are going to investigate the world by solving problems, searching for clues, uncovering facts, problem solving, and thinking, thinking, thinking!
It is going to be an exciting year in Third Grade!
HOMEWORK DUE:
THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 2, 2010: In their Math binder, each student has a copy of the "Dear Family" letter. This letter includes all of the vocabulary for Chapter 1 as well as an activity to be done with help from a family member. ALSO PAGE 3 IN THE MATH BINDER. THE RELIGION TEST WILL BE ON FRIDAY 9/3. THE STUDENTS HAVE A "GUIDE FOR STUDYING".
Math
In Chapter 1, we are exploring Place Value. Students and family can go to our new math program's website at http://www.sadlier-oxford.com/math On this site, students can practice their math skills including "Math Minutes".
Religion
In Third Grade, our Religion lessons are rooted in the four marks of the Church: One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic.
Chapter 1= We are one body in Christ. We will have our first test on FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 3. Today we began our Chapter Review in class. Students have a "Guide for Studying".
Imagine It Reading and Language Arts program
The topic for Unit One is Friendship. We will have a spelling pretest on Friday of this week and the spelling test will be the following Friday.
Social Studies
In Chapter 1, students are learnig about Communities and developing map skills.
Science
Third Grade rocks...literally! We will be learning the scientific process as we explore the world of Geology! In mid September, we will embark on a field trip to McCoy where we will explore the fossils and other geological points.
