This week in language arts we will continue with a review. The first assessment will be given this week involving comprehension, phonics, vocabulary and grammar.
Students will continue to review phonics skills, sight words, and oral language skills. We will be reading a variety of stories to review our comprehension skills of clarifying, summarizing, and sequencing. We will be setting up our writer’s notebooks (the students 3 ring binders). Writing will begin with writing responses in our journals to the stories we read.
Math
We are working on addition concepts with numbers up to 20. We are learning about money with pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. We will spend time on how to problem solve word problems.
Homework will go home this Friday Sept. 3rd due on Friday Sept. 10th.
Religion
We will begin with a presentation of liturgical calendar and the colors of the church seasons. We will also learn about the symbols of baptism.
The culmination of second grade is of course First Reconciliation and First Communion.
I hope to have these dates confirmed within the first two weeks of the school year.

This week in we will begin to learn about maps. We will look at directions using a compass and how it is shown on a map. We will discuss map keys.
