Literacy Coach
The Literacy Coach at St. Clare of Assisi is responsible for a variety of actions that target individual student progress. The students whom the Literacy Coach serves are selected by classroom teachers who feel the students would benefit from one to one instruction, remediation, or enrichment. The Literacy Coach also can be contacted by parents with specific concerns about their children, look into those raised concerns, and at the Literacy Coach’s discrepancy and classroom teacher’s approval, create a plan to respond to student needs. Finally, the Literacy Coach might personally identify students that need assistance based on compiled reading assessments and classroom observations.
The following duties are completed by the Literacy Coach:
- Student reading assessments on a quarterly or semester basis Remedial instruction with individual or small groupings of students.
- Documentation of IEP informed meetings, modifications, and intermittent evaluations of modifications and performance.
- In-classroom assistance to any Language Arts teacher requesting such.
- Implementation during the second semester of an individualized Sight Word Recognition Program for students in grades K through 2.
- Provide occasional mini-in-services for parents that address literacy issues and applications and improve the home and school connection.
- Year end compilation of reading fluency rates of all students by grade to create data for longitudinal study and to inform and/or support the curriculum
