 Dear Parents and Students,

Physical Education Classroom (05/26/2010)

   

FIELD DAY FOR KINDERGARTEN THROUGH 5TH GRADE TUES., JUNE 8TH.  WEAR RED T SHIRTS.

Kindergarten, 1st Grade, and 2nd Grade:Sizzling Soccer

  1. Motor Skills and Movement Patterns

      a. Tap the ball from foot to foot.

      b. Use the instep of the foot to kick a slowly moving ball along the ground and in the air.

      c. Continuously dribble a ball with the feet while keeping it in control.

  2. Identify the location of the heart and learn that it is a muscle and how its rate changes.

  3. Identify the location of the lungs and explain their role in collecting oxygen. 

  4. Follow directions given to the class for an all-class activity.

  5. Encourage others using verbal and nonverbal communication.

  6. Identify and demonstrate the attributes of an effective partner in physical activity. 

    We will practice drills and play games to incorporate these skills and patterns.

     

 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grades: Soccer Skills

   1. Motor Skills and Movement Patterns

      a. Foot dribble and maintain control while traveling in a group.

      b. Accurately demonstrate the difference in foot placement when kicking a stationary ball,

          a ball moving away, and a ball moving forward.

      c. Dribble a ball and kick toward a goal while being guarded.

      d. Stop a kicked ball by trapping it with the foot while moving.

      e. Kick a ball to a moving partner, using the inside of the foot.

      f. Kick a stationary ball from the ground into the air.

      g. Keep a foot-dribbled ball away from a denfensive partner.

  2. Encourage everyone and refrain from put-down statements.

  3. Engage positively with students of different and similar skill levels.

  4. Work on the President's Physical Fitness Challenge.

   

6th, 7th, and 8th Grades:  Soccer Skills

   1. Motor Skills and Movement Patterns

      a. Dribble a ball while preventing an opponent from stealing it.

      b. Demonstrate mature techniques for trapping and dribbling.

      c.  Foot-dribble a ball through an obstacle course with speed and control.

      d. Demonstrate consistency in putting the ball into play in various game situations.

   2. Identify principles for training and conditioning for physical activity.

   3. Realize that time and effort are prerequisites for skill improvement and fitness benefits;

       practice skills repetitively without having to be reminded to stay on task.

   4. Accept responsibility for individual improvement.

   5. Provide feedback to partners to assist in developing and improving movement skills.

   6. Model and encourage others to be supportive and inclusive of all ability levels. 

   7. Seek out, participates with, and show respect for a peer of lesser skill ability.

 

HEALTH CLASSES:   

6th Grade: Discuss fitness goals, activities that could be chosen, and make a Fitness Log in

    which frequency, intensity, and length of workouts will be recorded.  This log is homework.

    Logs due May 25th!  If your log hasn't been turned in, turn in by end of week, May 28th!

    Discuss conditioning skills, aerobic and anaerobic exercise, and sports skills.

 

7th and 8th Grades:  Discuss overcommitment, overtraining, overuse injuries and how to walk

      away.  Test review next week on sports and conditioning.  Test June 9th.
