Hello artists! Here are a few things to be looking forward to this year!
Studied at all grade levels: elements of art= space, color, shape, texture, value, form
Kindergarten
This year Kindergarten will have a main focus on the elements of art. Often at this level, I incorporate children’s books into my lessons. Mouse Paint and The Very Hungry Caterpillar are a few examples of books used to help teach about colors, shapes, and color mixing. Watercolor paints are introduced also to create a watercolor resist.
First Grade
First grade will study about the artist Piet Mondrian to help better understand line in art. To start out the year, we will read Lines That Wiggle by: Candace Whitman. Such a fun book! They will also explore the color wheel a bit further.
Second Grade
Second grade will start the year learning about the Impressionists painters and landscapes. We will also be studying the difference between positive and negative space.
Third Grade
Third grade will be learning a bit about drawing portraits this year in art. We also will be using our creative expression to make collages.
Fourth Grade
Weaving is an art form! We start the year with our watercolor weavings and talk a bit about textile design. Students will explore printmaking as an art form, which is so much fun!
Fifth Grade
Fifth grade will dive deeper into color theory during art. They will also encounter tessellations and sculpture design along their journey this year. Various media will be used.
Sixth Grade
Sixth graders have an exciting year to look forward to! They will get into proper sketching techniques to improve their drawing skills. Students can also look forward to learning a bit more about the artist Andy Warhol! A new component has been added into middle school this year which is having weekly sketchbooks assignments. Sketchbook assignments will be due every Tuesday. Sketches for the week must be labeled with the date and length of time spent on the sketch. If a student loses their sketchbook, they must pay a replacement fee.
