   Core Subjects

Religion
The foundations of our program are our core values; respect, responsibility, and reverence and are studied through the use of scripture and prayer.  Preparation for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion are conducted in the second grade during school hours.  Mass is held every Wednesday morning in the St. Clare of Assisi gym.

Reading
We use a balanced literacy mode.  Reading instruction includes word recognition, vocabulary and comprehension.  Instruction in middle school is primarily literature based with a focus on reading skills.  Our goal is to develop life long readers and writers.

Language Arts
Students are taught how to express themselves using conventional spelling, grammar, and mechanics.  Within the primary and intermediate grades, language study is center based with a focus on authentic writing tasks.  Middle school students employ a workshop model to build a classroom community of writers.

Math
Math is studied by the use of calculation, problem solving, geometry, algebra and analytical thinking skills.  Our aspiration is to develop confident and competent students that posses a solid grasp of computing, estimation and reasoning.  K-4th grade are using “Bridges in Mathematics”.  It is a unique standards-based curriculum developed with support from the National Science Foundation.  The program develops children’s mathematical thinking and reasoning abilities by providing age-appropriate problems and investigations.  Students at all grade levels are encouraged to explore, develop, test, discuss, justify, and apply mathematical ideas. Science
Students develop organizational and conceptual outlines through creative thinking/problem solving activities involving simulation, group investigation and active exploration while studying geography and history
